The Borough Council’s leisure service, Alive West Norfolk, is up for two major awards for excellence in the fitness and activity sector, recognising important work and facilities that are helping all residents to get more active and boost their health and fitness.
Alive Lynnsport, the flagship leisure complex in King’s Lynn, is up for the third year in a row to be potentially crowned Regional Public Leisure Centre of the Year in the East Anglia and Midlands region for the 2026 ukactive Awards.
Alive West Norfolk has also been shortlisted nationally for the ukactive Transformational Innovation Award. This recognises a number of new projects introduced over the last eight months including successful digital and virtual initiatives at the Alive Oasis in Hunstanton.
New innovative initiatives, including popular virtual fitness classes, are helping more people come together to get active and having a positive impact in the community, including an increase of 900 residents participating in just one month.
Councillor Simon Ring, the Deputy Council Leader, said: “This is welcome independent recognition of the council’s incredible and important work to help even more residents of all ages, abilities and backgrounds get involved in sport, boosting physical and mental health.
“Such double shortlisting successes is a credit to our teams at Alive West Norfolk, who work hard, week-in-week-out, to deliver the best possible health and wellbeing opportunities, facilities and outcomes for our communities, including trying out innovative ideas.
“It’s no surprise that Lynnsport is a finalist for the third year running. We continue to progress exciting plans for further enhancing facilities there, including a new eight-lane, 25m pool with learner pool and splash pad, and a Community Covered Tennis, Padel and Multisport Hub.”

“Fingers crossed for the next stage of judging and the awards ceremony on Thursday 8 October.”
The regional Leisure Centre of the Year winner will also be considered for national centre of the year.
