Woolplay Announces Studio Opening

Woolplay, a small independent business located on a smallholding at the Suffolk/Norfolk border, is thrilled to announce the opening of its wool and textile studio this Easter Monday.

Founded in 2024 by Claire Powell, Woolplay is dedicated to promoting wool sourced from British sheep breeds. With a growing collection of yarns and fibres sourced from their own rare breed flock as well as other local flocks, Woolplay aims to inspire creativity and encourage the enjoyment of working with natural materials rather than simply consuming them.

To celebrate the studio’s opening, Woolplay invites the local community to join them on Easter Monday for a relaxed, hands-on day. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Frappé and Annie, the house lambs, try spinning or weaving, and enjoy a warm welcome with drinks, light snacks, and friendly conversation. There will also be the chance to browse and purchase yarns for upcoming knitting or crochet projects.

Claire Powell, the founder of Woolplay, stated: “What began with our small flock of rare breed sheep has transformed into an amazing adventure into wool. Woolplay is for those who wish to support British wool and appreciate the mindful process of making. We are committed to celebrating the wonderful products that come from our countryside and promoting creativity be it through spinning, knitting, weaving, or simply enjoying the feel of a skein of yarn.”

Woolplay’s diverse collection of yarns and fibres is fully traceable, sourced from British farms and processed at British mills. In addition to their own Leicester Longwool sheep, they collaborate with several local flocks to provide wool from Ryland, Jacob, Zwartble, Dorset Down and Welsh cross breeds, alongside carefully selected British sheep fibres from trusted British mills.
