In early November The Sheringham Shantymen held their annual charity concert in the Pavilion Theatre on Cromer Pier to a sell-out crowd.
The show opened with a surprise introduction by the one & only Stephen Fry, a huge supporter of local causes and only too happy to don a Sheringham Shantymen cap & t-shirt (although he did note that perhaps the baseball cap didn’t suit him!) to record a welcome message for the audience.
The Shantymen proceeded to put on a lively show which included ‘world premieres’ of two music videos filmed especially for the show produced by (and starring) members of the Shantymen and some of their partners.
During the interval Sheringham Shantymen chairman, Rob Denny, presented two cheques for £1500 each to Sheringham RNLI & Cromer RNLI and another for £3000 to the St Barnabus Counselling Centre in Norwich.
The concert was hailed a huge success by the audience, Brian Farrow, Sheringham Shantymen’s musical director said “We would like to thank everyone that came along to our Cromer Pier show. This show is one we look forward to, and plan for, all year. The energy and enthusiasm of the crowd really drives the show and we hope our enjoyment performing it comes across. To be able to support such worthy local charities with £6000 just from this one concert alone is something we are all very proud of and the pinnacle of our fundraising year, to have an introduction by Stephen Fry is the cherry on the cake”.
