Swap screens for scenes this Summer at Westacre Theatre!

This August, Westacre Theatre is throwing open its doors (and prop cupboards!) to young people aged 8-14yrs for a series of imagination- fuelled drama workshops led by the endlessly creative Camilla from MissAdventures Theatre Company. In a world where many young people spend increasing time on screens, these lively, in-person sessions offer something altogether different: laughter, play, connection, and creativity -all in a supportive, inspiring environment where everyone is encouraged to
find their voice.

Taking place over eight dates across the summer holidays, the workshops invite participants to dive into the joy of theatre. Whether they’re building bold new characters, telling silly stories, or donning the wackiest hats and costumes you can imagine, every child is given space to express themselves, build confidence, and let their imagination run wild.

Each day offers something new – from games and group work to spontaneous storytelling and playful performance-making. There’s no pressure to perform perfectly – just a focus on fun, freedom, and building the kind of social and creative skills that last long after the curtain falls.

“Camilla has an incredible gift for unlocking confidence in young people,” says Director of Westacre Theatre, Sadie Grist. “Her sessions are packed with energy and laughter, but also offer something deeper – the chance to be heard, to feel seen, and to feel proud of what you create.”

These workshops are part of Westacre Theatre’s mission to make the arts accessible, inclusive and empowering for all. As one of the only purpose-built arts centres in rural Norfolk, we play a vital role in enriching local lives through creativity.

Our Summer Bursary Scheme, sibling discounts and welcoming environment ensure that every young person can take part — regardless of background. From holiday workshops and youth theatre to school sessions and community events, Westacre provides a creative lifeline in a region where arts access is limited, helping young people express themselves, connect with others and grow in confidence.

“So many have walked into Westacre as one kind of kid and come out the other end, another,” says local parent and home educator Paula Cleary. “Camilla has guided groups through challenging topics with care and respect. Our family – and so many others – have been deeply enriched by what Westacre offers.”
