Little Theatre springs into action with varied mix

A blast of frosty, but fun, weather is forecast in Sheringham this Spring  – the Little Theatre gears up to stage Frozen as its Easter youth musical.

A 30-strong cast will perform the junior stage adaptation of the heartwarming Disney adventure from April 16-19.

Open auditions for youngsters aged eight to 18 to join the cast, in lead roles or as chorus members, are being held at the theatre on January 12 at 10am.

Theatre director Debbie Thompson said: “We traditionally hold a youth musical every Easter and following the success of Matilda last year all the children asked to do Frozen. It will be great to see families gathering to enjoy the production’s great songs including Elsa’s Let It Go.”

The show is among the highlights as the venue launches its March to May programme in a new brochure available from the theatre and its website.

Debbie said the varied mix includes three new pieces of drama, two am dram shows, comedy, music acts ranging from rock to roots, a family show and a gardening question time.

“We hope there is something for all ages and tastes. I love Spring, which is when we can combine showcasing young talent, with some new pieces of work.”

The new dramas are Forgotten in the Land of Egypt (March 7), a topical and touching Fenland drama by the Mango Ensemble Theatre Co, Sophia (April 12) by Eastern Angles looking at the life of the daughter of the last Maharajah of Punjab who was brought up in Suffolk, and Matt, a moving story of mental health and hope by Reflect Productions (April 25).

Amateur groups will be presenting Abigail’s Party (February 26-March 1), the classic comedy revolving around a 1970s social gathering, and Cold Comfort Farm (March 26-29) charting a tidy-minded orphan’s life with her eccentric relatives.

Music includes world music from Anna Mudeka and friends at a Wavelength club night (March 9) and Fiasco (May 2), along with classic rhythm and blues from Da Bluz Brothers (March 15). A trio of rock tributes have been rebooked after proving popular last year – Maid in Britain (April 5), Rock for Heroes (May 9) and Hollywood Legends of Rock (May 17). There is also Abba tribute Sweden (April 29) and Neil Diamond tribute Song Sung Blue (May 24).

East Ruston gardening expert Alan Gray is returning with his radio Garden Party colleague Anna Perrot to give advice and answer questions on March 8 in a charity event splitting its funds between the theatre and Perennial, a charity for gardeners.

There are lots more drama, music and screening dates in the new brochure, which is downloadable from www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com. It also contains information about volunteering and sponsorship opportunities at the venue.
