Profile
The Westacre Theatre Company return this May with Yasmina Reza’s explosive dark comedy God of Carnage – a brilliantly funny, brutally honest and wickedly relatable portrait of modern civility falling apart at the seams.
>Directed by and starring Matt Grist, the production reunites a standout ensemble: Kieran Gough, Sadie Grist, and Tamsin Wheeler, whose acclaimed work together has lit up Westacre Theatre in productions including Private Lives, Betrayal, Five Lesbians and a Quiche, Alligators, and Di & Viv & Rose. If audiences loved them before, they won’t want to miss what happens when the gloves come off.
When two sets of parents meet to discuss a playground altercation between their children, the conversation begins politely enough. But as wine flows and egos collide, civility quickly unravels into chaos – revealing the humour, hypocrisy and volatility lurking just beneath the surface of adult composure.
Fast, fierce and uncomfortably relatable, God of Carnage is a 90-minute rollercoaster of escalating tension and dark comedy that exposes the “god of carnage” in us all.
The play was adapted into the 2011 film Carnage, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly, further cementing its status as a modern classic.
Beyond the stage, this production also highlights something vital: the importance of supporting rural, independent theatre. Westacre Theatre is a small but mighty 83-seat venue in West Norfolk, delivering work of West End calibre right at the heart of the community. As a registered charity, every ticket purchased helps keep the theatre open and supports affordable workshops, clubs and opportunities for young people in the region.
In an age where local arts spaces are increasingly under pressure, Westacre continues to prove that world-class storytelling can thrive in intimate, rural settings – offering audiences the rare chance to experience theatre up close, personal, and unforgettable.
Book now and support local theatre – while enjoying an unmissable night of sharp, fearless comedy in West Acre.
