Westacre Theatre invites you to experience the joy of theatre like never before with its spectacular outdoor season: Live By The Lake – two months of music, drama, and pure magic, right here in the heart of West Norfolk.

At the heart of the season is something truly special: our unique National Bursary Scheme, giving early-career actors, singers, dancers, musicians, and technicians from across the UK the chance to live and work in a professional theatre environment.

“These young actors bring fresh energy, talent, and passion to every part of our summer,” says Sadie Grist, Director of Westacre Theatre. “We’re incredibly proud of what the Bursary Scheme offers – a real stepping stone into an often difficult and competitive industry. And the best way to support them? Come and see them perform!”

First up: Swallows & Amazons – The perfect musical family adventure under canvas!

Set sail on an unforgettable adventure with this heartwarming stage adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s beloved children’s classic. Adapted by Helen Edmundson with music by Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy), Swallows & Amazons bursts with theatrical invention, imaginative storytelling, and boundless charm.

“Audiences will be transported from Rio across the ocean to Wildcat Island, whipped up into pirate battles on stormy seas, before making camp amongst the trees,” adds Becky Owen-Fisher, Director of Swallows & Amazons. “Full of beautiful music, this gorgeous, exciting, adventurous and, for me, hugely nostalgic tale is one for all the family!”

Whether you’re 5 or 95, Swallows & Amazons is a joyous celebration of childhood and the endless possibilities of imagination – all in the enchanting lakeside setting of Westacre’s covered outdoor auditorium. And remember, as a registered charity, every ticket sold this summer directly supports Westacre Theatre’s ongoing mission: to enrich lives through creative participation, cultural
connection, and inclusive access to the arts – particularly in rural communities.
