A youth stage version of the heart-warming musical Frozen is being defrosted as an Easter treat for Sheringham Little Theatre audiences.
The Frozen Junior show is a compact version of the classic Disney tale combining magical powers, adventure, romance, sisterly love – and the signature singalong song Let It Go.
A 30-strong cast, aged from eight to 16 will perform the show from April 16-19, but rehearsals are well under way at regular Sunday sessions.
Director Nick Earnshaw, who is the Sheringham venue’s Mr Pantomime and runs a youth theatre in his native Stafford, said: “Youngsters love the songs and the story of how Anna is trying to find and help her sister Elsa who has been locked away after accidentally using her special ice-creating powers.
“Shows like this and Matilda has reawakened young people’s interest in musicals – and have rewritten the old style fairy stories of waiting to be rescued by princes. Here the girls are the strong characters and catalysts.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun, including meeting snowman Olaf and reindeer Sven along the way and creating snow and ice on stage with some clever dance and movement routines.”
Sheringham dance school owner Tom Withington is doing the choreography, with North Walsham teacher and singer Charlotte Joyce the vocal coaching.
Frozen was chosen by the theatre’s youth musical group after last year’s successful staging of Matilda.
The show began as a 2013 animation featuring Idina Menzel as the voice of Snow Queen Elsa before being turned into a musical, initially on Broadway, in 2018, then opening in London’s West End in 2021.
