Profile
Join us to explore the fascinating world of bats, hidden within our private woodland. Our bat walk at Deepdale Farm will be led by expert volunteers from the Norfolk & Norwich Bat Group. They will provide the equipment and knowledge to discover the various species that utilise the habitats within our woodland.
We will meet at 8:45pm at Downs Barn, which will allow us time to sort out bat detectors and learn how to use them, before sunset at 9.07pm.
We will set off along a woodland track, walking slowly and stopping at intervals to listen for bat activity. Our bat experts, will provide interesting facts throughout the walk and there will be lots of time to ask questions. We will aim to be back at the barn about 10:30-10:45pm.
We hope to hear a number of bat species including Daubenton’s, Barbastelle and Pipistrelle. But bat activity is always dependent on the weather, so nothing can be guaranteed.
To allow more people to discover the world of bats, detectors will be shared, with one per couple or family group. This guided walk is suitable for anyone aged 8 years and above.
Last year we were lucky enough to find eight different species – pipistrelle, soprano pipistrelle, noctule, barbastelle, Natterer’s, Daubenton’s, brown long-eared and Nathusius’ pipistrelle. We look forward to discovering what is feeding at the farm this year.
