A new weekly walking cricket initiative at the Marina Centre in Great Yarmouth is proving to be a big hit with the over-50s, thanks to a partnership between the Norfolk Cricket Board and the centre’s recreation team.
Originally launched in November 2024 as a five-week funded pilot scheme, the success of the sessions has led to their indefinite extension. With more than 20 regular attendees already taking part, the Thursday afternoon events have quickly become a hub for active adults looking to stay fit, meet new people, and enjoy friendly competition.

Facilitated by the Marina Centre’s recreation team, the sessions offer a fun and low-impact version of the classic sport, tailored to suit older adults or those looking to ease back into activity. After each game, participants gather in the on-site café to relax and socialise, with many forming lasting friendships and even taking part in inter-group competitions across the region.
Walking Cricket takes place every Thursday from 12–2pm at the Marina Centre. Entry costs £5.25 and includes a hot drink and up to three hours of parking, which can be validated at the main reception.
