Sheringham RNLI Honours Long-Serving Volunteers

Sheringham RNLI held a special retirement dinner on Friday 19th September at Sheringham Golf Club to celebrate the outstanding dedication of several of its volunteers. The evening marked the retirement of Brian Farrow, who recently stepped down after an extraordinary 30 years of service as Sheringham Lifeboat Operations Manager (a position originally known as Honorary Secretary). Brian was presented with his 30-Year Service Medal, a framed Certificate of Service, and a plaque in recognition of his commitment and leadership.

Also honoured was Steve Banks, helmsman and Launch Authority, who retired this year after 20 years of service to Sheringham Lifeboat. Additional thanks and appreciation were given to other retiring members: Tony Randall (Treasurer), Gail Barker (Visits Officer), Matt Blake (Crew), Kate Munro (Crew), and Leanne McColm (Shore Crew).

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a 50-Year Service Medal to Clive Rayment. Clive’s remarkable five decades of service included roles at both Cromer and Sheringham Lifeboat Stations as crew member, Second Coxswain, Coxswain of Cromer lifeboats, Senior Helmsman, and Deputy Launch Authority at Sheringham.

Across six different lifeboats, Clive dedicated half a century to saving others and was awarded the RNLI’s Bronze Medal for Bravery in 1980 for the rescue of two fishermen off East Runton.

Guests also heard a speech from Jackie Nunn, Vice President of the East Anglian branch of The Oddfellows, who spoke in support of Sheringham RNLI.

The evening was attended by many of the Sheringham RNLI shop volunteers as well as representatives from Sheringham’s flank stations at Cromer and Wells.

Sheringham RNLI would like to extend its sincere thanks to Sheringham Golf Club for providing a wonderful meal and to Petroglyph Engraving of Sheringham for creating the unique slate plaques presented on the evening.
