Chris Crowther spent 42 years of his working life flying aeroplanes and helicopters in various parts of the world, mainly West Africa as Chief Pilot of a helicopter operation, and where his first books were written. After hanging up his flying helmet, he skippered passenger boats on the Norfolk Broads where he now lives with his wife Sue, rowing and sailing while plotting his next “Jack Fellows” adventure.
THE “JACK FELLOWS” SERIES OF MURDER AND MYSTERY
Dastardly deeds are not something you automatically associate with Norfolk, but local author Chris Crowther has gone even further and used the tranquil magic of Broadland as the setting for his series of whodunits.
The sleuth in these stories is Jack Fellows, a navigation ranger with the Broads Authority, who spends his days patrolling the waterways, assisting boaters and enforcing the river by-laws. Like many rangers, he has a police background, in his case as a Detective Superintendant with Scotland Yard, and a copper’s instinct that looks beyond the carefree boating to a rather more sinister world of strange happenings and questionable deaths. For Jack, much to the dismay of his long-suffering wife, Audrey, this is just grist to the mill of his investigative skills. And so, amongst marsh and reedbed, old boatyards, dilapidated windpumps and unique wildlife, wrongdoers are pursued, though with many a twist en route, to a solution that will challenge every armchair detective until the very last page.
WATERPROOF – A brutal murder, but the police soon have their man . . . or have they?
STILL WATERS – A girl inherits a boatyard from her grandfather . . . except she’s never heard of either before in her life.
THE WATER FROLIC – A joint endeavour might just reconcile two very different communities, until . . .
WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE – How do you solve a crime that had to be impossible in the first place?
MURKY WATERS – The simple contents of a long-lost handbag lead down a trail that becomes ever murkier.
DEAD IN THE WATER – Could a despised new landowner really be the victim of a time-slip?
WATERSHED – steam and mystery with Jack Fellows on the Broads
As well as Chris’s series of Jack Fellows books Chris has just written PURSUIT, a flying thriller set in WW1. 1926 – The Bronx – New York, a much-loved priest brutally murdered, a vagrant arrested, and struggling lawyer Mark Kingsley roped in to his defence. Except the accused turns out to be his old best friend and fellow-flyer from WW1 days in the LFC, but who higher authority now seem strangely intent on framing for the crime. Embarking on his own quest for the truth, Kingsley finds not only romance and constant recollection of those wartime years, but also the mounting realization that they hold dark secrets and a connection to one of America’s first and most enduring aviation mysteries.
