Local Marketing Consultant wins Global award

Norfolk-based marketing consultant Judi-mae Alderton, owner of Mae Day Marketing, has been awarded the prestigious global Business Marketing Consultancy of the Year Award by Corporate LiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards.

The Corporate LiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards are the most highly anticipated and celebrated recognition within the global corporate community, highlighting firms and individuals that have introduced new methods and ideas in their industry over the past 12 months.

This award not only celebrates Alderton’s individual dedication but also highlights the prowess of Norfolk’s marketing consultancy landscape on a global stage. Corporate LiveWire received a staggering 27,515 nominations from 34 countries worldwide, making this year’s competition exceptionally fierce. That a Norfolk business won in the category of ‘Consultancy and Business Services’ is a feat for Alderton and Norfolk itself.

Alderton, born in Great Yarmouth and an IT & business graduate from the University of East Anglia, launched Mae Day Marketing in the summer of 2019 with a desire to independently offer her support to ambitious, forward thinking businesses in the UK and beyond. Since then – and in spite of the negative business impacts of the pandemic – she has grown her business to the next level.

Mae Day Marketing works with businesses to realise their potential through marketing, PR, digital strategies & events and often helps deliver huge revenue improvements to her clients through her guidance and hard work, such as with her first long-term client, Brook House Hops, whom she supported to raise their profits by 50%, despite the pandemic

A born communicator, Alderton describes herself as a “creative, strong and confident, an excellent strategist” and “an absolute digital marketing genius, with a very long personal history and background in digital technology and communications.”

The judges of the Corporate LiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards were impressed with Mae Day Marketing (and therefore Alderton)’s ‘community feel, personal touch and emphasis on service’. This has also been recognised by her previous clients, such as Norwich City Council, who used Mae Day Marketing in 2022 to support a central government funded Community Renewal Fund project.

At the end of the project, CRF Programme Officer for Norwich City Council, Saskia Walsh stated “Judi-mae consistently delivered a friendly, professional and timely service. Her expertly-written content was shared on our community sharing platform LUMi’s social media channels, and generated interest across Norwich in our workshops and grants programme. Thanks to Judi-mae, we were able to successfully advertise the project Norwich-wide, and ended up exceeding our delivery targets for participant attendance.”

Alderton, a communications professional with over two decades of experience working for local businesses – such as Anglian Home Improvements where she launched their very first digital marketing strategy in 2007, as well as Head of Marketing for both Lacons and Woodforde’s Breweries – has been a trailblazer in Norfolk’s marketing arena since graduating in 2004.

From pioneering social media strategies when the concept was only just emerging, to managing website projects, optimising online reputations and launching successful PR campaigns such as Woodforde’s sponsorship of The Barclay at Norwich City Football Club, she has consistently demonstrated exceptional expertise and creativity.

This honour follows Alderton’s previous award triumph in 2009 when, as part of Anglian Home Improvements’ team, she clinched ‘Best Use of Social Media’ at the Drum Awards for the Digital Industries (DADIs), an annual lighthouse event and one of the world’s largest competitions for the global marketing community, celebrating every key marketing discipline.

This was a significant achievement considering the infancy of social media in the marketing landscape and Alderton’s work influencing her employer at the time to invest in this new communications technology. The Corporate Livewire accolade continues the recognition of Alderton’s unwavering dedication to forward thinking in communications and business, using innovative strategies and out-of-the-box thinking in her marketing solutions and brand development philosophies. In the words of Corporate LiveWire Awards Judge, Osmaan Mahmood, “Each winner of these awards has made a substantial contribution to their sector with an innovative view to pushing business success and ideas. We look forward to seeing how they will continue to demonstrate their commitment in the future.”

“I am incredibly proud of this achievement. It reflects not just my personal journey but the collective efforts of the whole industry and the unwavering support from the local community, which is so amazing in Norfolk, this beautiful county of ours” said Alderton. “This award is not just a recognition; it’s a testament to the spirit of innovation, service excellence and community support that define Norfolk’s business landscape.”

Alderton’s career journey exemplifies resilience, overcoming setbacks and achieving remarkable successes, with more than 3 unexpected redundancies along the way to self-employment, explained by the fact that marketing departments, in her words, “are always having their budgets throttled first”. Covid was a good reminder of this, when, after only launching her business 9 months before, overnight she lost over 80% of her income within hours of Boris Johnson’s now famous press conference about the impending Covid lockdown. Without wanting to dwell on the negatives she has overcome, Alderton cites the famous Henry Ford quote: ‘A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man who stops a clock to save time.’

Mae Day Marketing has consistently stood out for its unique approach, offering tailored solutions to businesses of all sizes and types. Local businesses Alderton has supported in the past include Larking Gowen Chartered Accountants, Isle Architects, Cavell Orchards, Sweet P Creations, KB Cosmetics, The Rose Inn NR1, The Brickmakers, Compass Independent Financial Services, Romans in Schools, Helium East, The Happiness Branch, Buoyancy Bikes, The Ministry of Imagination, Norwich City Council, Gringos Nacho Factory, Smart Tech Repairs and The Copper Smokehouse.

Alderton’s commitment to her clients, her profound understanding of digital technology and consumer psychology and her dedication to fostering a sense of community have set her apart in the marketing consultancy sphere.

Alderton’s story is an inspiration, not just for budding marketers but for anyone aspiring to succeed against all odds. Her achievements are not just personal victories; they resonate with the entrepreneurial spirit of Norfolk.
