Homebuilder’s £1,500 donation helps Norfolk’s young people cope with bereavement.

A Norfolk charity helping bereaved children and young people has received a £1,500 donation from a Norwich-based housebuilder.

The donation to Nelson’s Journey was made by Barratt and David Wilson Homes Anglia through its monthly Community Fund initiative, which is backed by The Barratt Redrow Foundation.

Run by the developer’s parent company, Barratt Redrow, the Foundation supports national and local charities across the UK to help leave a legacy in the communities where the housebuilder operates.

The funding will help the charity continue its vital work supporting children who have experienced the death of a loved one, going towards therapeutic materials, memory books, toys, and residential activity weekends that bring bereaved children together in a safe and understanding environment.

Gary Stevens, Funding Manager at Nelson’s Journey, said: “It was a fantastic surprise to be selected for a donation. We hadn’t heard of the scheme before, so to find out that someone had nominated us was really special.

“The money will make a real difference. We don’t receive government or local authority funding, so donations like this are vital to help us continue reaching children and young people across Norfolk who are struggling with grief.

“A huge thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for this generous support.”

Since 1997, Nelson’s Journey has worked with thousands of children across Norfolk to help them understand and cope with bereavement, while also training professionals like teachers and healthcare workers to better support grieving youngsters.

Simon Wood, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Anglia, said: “Nelson’s Journey provides a vital service for children and young people in Norfolk who are facing the most difficult of circumstances.

“The charity’s work to offer specialist bereavement support not only helps young people understand their grief, but also empowers them to move forward with confidence and hope.

“We hope this donation helps Nelson’s Journey continue to provide the care and guidance so many families rely on.”
