Artist Debbie Storey has returned to the Pennoyer Centre this spring with her exhibition ‘Wild Encounters’, which opened today (22 April) and runs until 15 May.
Moongazer hares, wild horses and stags emerging from magical forests are just some of the animals that are hanging in the Centre’s Chapel.
Debbie said: “The Centre is a beautiful space to display artwork and perfect for some of the bigger pieces that I struggle to display at other exhibitions where space is more limited.”
Debbie paints in acrylic, favouring their bright bold colours to portray the natural world. She often uses a palette knife to capture movement and build texture into her pieces, while blending realism with abstract to give her work an ethereal quality.
She said: “I draw a lot of inspiration from local wildlife, particularly hares and stags, which I love to try and spot. Horses are also a favourite, I enjoy capturing their movement and painting their muscular figures.”
Visitors will also be able to find out more about how to commission pet portraits and pet portraits with ashes. “I’ve painted lots of pets over the years and have recently started offering to paint them with ashes. I really enjoy the process and the feeling I get when handing over the finished work.”
Pennoyer Centre Manager, Helen Timmons said: “ We are delighted to have Debbie and her marvellous artworks back at the Centre. Visitors can pop in for lunch or a delicious homemade cake and enjoy the work in a fabulous setting.”
The Pennoyer Centre is open Monday to Saturday: 9.30am – 4pm.
