Eaton Concert Series is very excited to be hosting the legendary UK bank Gryphon at St Andrew’s Church, Eaton on Friday 7th June (7.30pm).
Gryphon is the oldest and the newest thing – a legendary UK band that won a huge international following in the 1970s with its uniquely enjoyable approach to early music and British folk. They are touring again and celebrating 50 years since the release of their debut album. Gifted, unpredictable and impossible to pigeonhole, Gryphon is adored by lovers of Renaissance, prog rock and folk music alike. Using crumhorns, bassoons and recorders alongside violin and mandolin, guitars, keyboards and percussion, Gryphon has always dazzled and delighted a wide range of music lovers, once appearing on BBC Radios 1, 2, 3 and 4 in a single week!
Gryphon stunned their faithful following four decades later in 2018 when they released their sixth studio album, ReInvention, to huge acclaim. Far from an isolated flash of brilliance they announced a further brand new release Get out of my Father’s car which proves to be every bit as unfathomably innovative and exciting. Continuing to display fine humour, it defies repetition in favour of seemingly constant streams of reinvention, perhaps even surpassing its predecessor in its richness.
Original members Graeme Taylor, Brian Gulland and Dave Oberlé are joined by the extraordinarily virtuosic Andy Findon on clarinets, saxes and flutes, plus two new members: the experienced and versatile Rob Levy on bass guitar and the amazingly talented Clare Taylor on violin and keyboards. All three new members have contributed compositions to recent album Get Out Of My Father’s Car and the range of styles is unprecedented.
Gryphon is the antidote to genres. Whatever you expect, you’ll get something different! Gryphon is proud of its diverse appeal, enjoying a global fan base, and a wide range of audiences – progressive, folk, rock as well as classical and early music lovers.
