South Norfolk and Broadland District Councils marked Small Business Saturday on 6 December by showing their support for local independent businesses across the districts.
As part of the celebrations, Cllr Martin Booth and Cllr Lisa Overton Neal visited a range of independent businesses to meet owners and highlight the diverse products and services available in the area.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness of the vital role small businesses play in the local economy and encourage residents to shop locally, particularly in the run-up to Christmas.
Broadland District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Cllr Martin Booth, said: “Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. By supporting them, we’re not only helping the local economy thrive but also preserving the unique character of our towns and villages. This Christmas, I encourage everyone to shop local and discover the fantastic independents we have right here.”
South Norfolk Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Growth, Cllr Lisa Overton Neal, added: “It was wonderful to meet so many passionate business owners who work tirelessly to serve their customers. Every purchase from a local independent makes a real difference. Shopping locally helps sustain jobs, strengthens communities and ensures that our high streets remain lively and welcoming. Let’s all do our bit to keep these businesses strong and vibrant.”
Their visits were complemented by a dedicated social media campaign designed to boost the profiles of local traders and inspire residents to explore what’s on their doorstep.
Businesses that took part included: A New Leaf, Aylsham Garden Centre, Fresh Bread Micro Brewery, Goat Shed, The Wild Daisy, Thorpe Plant Centre and Wymondham Garden Centre.
