Construction team grow their hearts and hair for Amber’s Army

Site workers at David Wilson Homes’ Kingfisher Meadow development in Horsford have banded together to grow out their hair in November while raising money for a cause close to their hearts.

Coinciding with Movember, moustaches have been grown in aid of Amber’s Army, a Horsford-based family charity, which was established in 2023 by Jon and Amanda Sheehy in loving memory of their daughter, Amber.

Amber bravely battled a brain tumour but unfortunately lost her fight in January 2023 at the age of eight. The Sheehy family, with the support of friends who played a significant role during Amber’s cancer journey, formed the board of trustees for this meaningful organisation.

The Kingfisher Meadows site team embraced the initiative with enthusiasm in a bid to strengthen team spirit and also contribute to the noble cause. The team’s collective effort raised an admirable total of £160 for Amber’s Army.

Amanda Sheehy, Amber’s mother, said: “We are really touched that the site team at Kingfisher Meadow have chosen to support our cause and, not only that, but have also named the park on site in Amber’s memory. We are very thankful to the team at David Wilson Homes.”

The charity’s mission, inspired by Amber’s resilience, is to ‘Create Rainbows in the Darkest of Days’ for Norfolk families facing the heart-wrenching challenge of a child’s terminal cancer diagnosis.

Its unique approach involves building relationships with the entire family, ensuring that no member feels excluded during this challenging time. Through meticulous planning and consideration, Amber’s Army aims to provide families with cherished memories and uplifting experiences.

The families, either referred by Norfolk Hospitals or Hospices or through self-referral, find solace and support through the compassionate work of the charity.

Simon Wood, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Anglia, said: “We are honoured to support a very touching local charity, and are proud to be part of such a compassionate and caring community. We commend our team at Kingfisher Meadow for their efforts in committing to raise funds for such a fantastic cause.”

The funds raised by the Kingfisher Meadow team will go directly to Amber’s Army, helping the charity continue its mission of bringing light to the lives of Norfolk families facing unimaginable challenges.
