Construction of Swaffham supported living scheme officially gets underway

A ground-breaking ceremony has taken place in Swaffham to mark the start of construction of a new supported living scheme in the town.

Golden Court, accessed by car from Beech Close, exemplifies the ambition and priorities at the heart of Breckland Council’s Housing Strategy.

When complete, the development will provide 12 modern apartments and four accessible bungalows. They will be designed specifically to support people with additional needs to live independently and thrive as part of the local community.

The scheme has been supported by Breckland Council and delivered by a partnership involving Norfolk County Council, HBV Group, ATEL Design and Build Limited, and support provider Avenues Group.

The scheme, backed by £2.35 million of capital funding from Norfolk County Council, represents a prime example of the approach set out in Breckland Council’s Housing Strategy 2024-29, a long-term plan to meet the district’s growing and changing housing needs. Central to that strategy is a commitment to enabling inclusive, high-quality housing that empowers residents, supports health and wellbeing, and strengthens communities.

Deputy Leader of Breckland Council and Executive Member for Housing and Planning, Cllr Sarah Suggitt, said: “Golden Court shows exactly what we’re working to achieve through our new Housing Strategy – homes that are not only safe and high quality, but designed around people’s real lives and aspirations.

“This development will help residents with additional needs to live independently, confidently, and as part of their community. It’s an excellent example of the kind of inclusive, future-proofed housing we want to see more of across Breckland.”
