Profile
Their 2023 album The Colour of Amber has been praised for its vivid and evocative interpretations of traditional songs and tunes. The album pairs Hart’s tenor viol and distinctive vocal style with Moore’s expressive viola, enriched by drones and basslines from an old chapel harmonium. The result is a deeply absorbing expression of English traditional music performed by two master musicians with a deep understanding of the tradition.
Both artists are highly regarded figures within the contemporary folk scene. Nick Hart, an award-winning singer and multi-instrumentalist, has been described by Tradfolk.co as “probably the finest interpreter of traditional English folk songs this generation has produced.” Tom Moore, a violist, fiddle player, and guitarist, has earned widespread recognition for his versatile and inventive musicianship. His playing has been described as “ingenious” by The Guardian and “irresistible” by The Independent. Alongside his performance career across the UK and Europe, Moore has also established himself as a sought-after producer and engineer, contributing to numerous acclaimed recordings.
The pair’s musical partnership spans more than a decade, with Moore having performed and engineered on all three of Hart’s solo albums, and over the years, the pair have developed a close and intuitive collaborative relationship. Their shared musical language draws deeply from English traditional repertoire while presenting it with fresh sensitivity and emotional depth.
Originally from mid-Norfolk, Moore recently returned to the region after twelve years in London. Hart, who grew up on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border, is now based in Bristol. Their 2026 tour is an opportunity for audiences to experience their distinctive collaboration live, in venues from Cornwall to Northumberland.
