Profile
A rip-roaring romp set in a 1920s English boarding school is the latest show by Sheringham Little Theatre’s talented youth group.
Daisy Pulls It Off is a parody of wholesome adventure stories like the Famous Five. It sees energetic Daisy Meredith, who comes from a poor background, battling snobbery, prejudice and false accusations from wealthier girls out to get her expelled. She and her madcap best friend Trixie battle on to search for missing treasures that save the posh girls school’s failing fortunes. The plot is laced with pastiche, splendid scrapes, midnight feasts and jolly hockey sticks – and is a charming celebration of courage, friendship, and fun while battling adversity.
It is the first ever show by the theatre’s Focus youth group, for 11 to 17-year-olds which teaches more in-depth drama skills too those seeking potential careers in the arts.Daisy Meredith is played by Alexa Price, 16, while Bea Ashby, 13, is her sidekick Trixie. Their adversaries are Sybil (Romana Li-Rocchi 14) and Monica (Eleanor Tyrrell 11).
Other cast members are: Annika McKernan as teachers Miss Granville, Miss Gibson, Mr Scoblowski, and Mademoiselle); Hollie Smyth as Clare Beaumont; Rosie Purslow as
Alice Fitzpatrick/Mr Thompson; Pearl Welch as Belinda Mathieson; Olivia Linford as Winnie Irving/Mother.
Director Ellen Waite said: “It’s a great story of courage, friendship and fun. Rehearsals have been a real test for the nine-strong cast, as it is set in the 1920s so they are having to learn different language from the era, and some are doing multiple parts including Annika who is playing all four teachers!”
Assistant director is Lucy Connor and Charlotte Pistorius is stage manager.
