The new year will bring a happier time for many people in Norfolk this year thanks to the benevolent actions of a Norfolk landlord who donates all profits from his pub to a charity who help the homeless and people in need of help.
Yash Korat took on the running of The White Horse pub in Chedgrave at the start of the year and chose to do something quite unique. Whatever is left after paying wages and bills goes straight to the Anantya foundation a charity that he has registered and set up to help people in Norfolk in need of financial help from the weekly shop to purchasing essential medicines for people suffering from Cancer.
Yash, who also runs a restaurant in London from which he makes his living, does not take a penny from the pub. He has set up a range of weekly and monthly nights from comedy and music to quiz and curry nights to help raise much needed funds. The nights have proved to be very successful with the curry nights being fully booked, up to 120 people turning up for the quiz nights, Comedy nights organised by Shaft of Wit, and a wide variety of bands and artists drawing quite a crowd. Looking ahead he has plans for 2026, many of which will be revealed following his first anniversary there in early February.
He describes the pub as a ‘hidden gem in Norfolk’ which in celebrating events recently from Bonfire night to Divali he is trying to make into ‘a multi-cultural pub’.
In an impoverished time of division Yash is doing something to unite, offer hope and help to people. Many already have and many more will benefit from one man’s generosity, not only at Christmas and new year but for the foreseeable future as a result of his kind and generous efforts and actions.
