South Norfolk Council’s Big Litter Pick 2024 has come to an end with 20 local groups, clubs and associations winning £220 each to benefit their community.
This year 52 groups organise litter picks with 767 volunteers spending 2,816 hours litter picking and collecting 664 bags (approximately 4,648kgs) of litter.
Councillor Keith Kiddie, Cabinet Member for the Environment said: “South Norfolk is one of the best and most beautiful places to live in the country and I was delighted to see so many people getting involved in our litter picks, to help keep it that way.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part. Our residents’ hard work makes a real difference to our communities and I would also like to say congratulations to all our winners.”
South Norfolk Council provided advice and the equipment needed for the litter picks and collected up the bags of rubbish and recycling.
All the names of all the community groups and schools that registered to take part were entered into a draw to win a share of the prize fund. Twenty £220 prizes were up for grabs and every group that took part was given a £20 voucher to be spent on their group, charity or local community.
