Profile
Great Yarmouth’s famous Easter Fair will be based in the town’s Market Place, Fuller’s Hill, Brewery Plain and Church Plain from Thursday, April 24, until Sunday, April 27.
The fair, which has been running for more than century, will see Great Yarmouth Borough Council once again working with the eastern counties branch of the Showmen’s Guild to provide the traditional Easter celebration for residents and visitors.
The wide range of new and traditional rides and attractions will be spread over the Market Place southern piazza, Market Place car park, Brewery Plain car park and Fuller’s Hill car park.
The Mayor of the Borough of Great Yarmouth, Councillor Paula Waters-Bunn, will officially open the fair on Thursday, April 24, when she hands over the ceremonial Charter Key for the duration of the event to representatives of the Showmen’s Guild.
The gold-embossed ceramic Charter Key was made by Ernie Childs, of Great Yarmouth Potteries, in 2008 to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Royal Charter granted to Great Yarmouth by King John in 1208.
Children’s rides in the southern piazza area of the Market Place will be open from noon on Thursday, April 24, with other rides opening at 4pm. The fair opens at 11am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It closes at 11pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 6pm on Sunday.
The mayor said: “Being raised in Great Yarmouth, I know how well loved the Easter fair is by our residents and visitors.
“As mayor, I will be proud to officially open this year’s fair, which I know will provide a fun-filled four days for people of all ages.”
The car parks at Fuller’s Hill, Brewery Plain and the Market Place will be closed from the evening of Tuesday, April 22, until the evening of Sunday, April 27, to allow the event to take place.
There will be a temporary road closure on The Conge from noon on Wednesday, April 23, until the fair ends on Sunday, April 27. Traffic using Howard Street will need to turn left into The Conge towards the Quay. Access to the Palace Bingo via Brewery Plain car park will remain open throughout.
As in previous years, the two-day market will be cancelled while the fair is in town and Great Yarmouth Borough Council will be providing traffic control and medical cover for the duration of the event.
