More than £20,000 has been raised to support bereaved children in Norfolk, after an abseiling day at The Forum in the centre of Norwich.
Nelson’s Journey teamed up with Howard Adventure Hire and, with sponsorship from SLM Toyota, helped 56 people to face their fears and descend the iconic 40ft building.
While entries were open to the public, many of those who took part were from families who have been directly supported by the charity, which provides bereavement support for children and young people in Norfolk who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives.
Among those taking part was Kayleigh Hill, a mum of two from Thorpe St Andrew, who abseiled in memory of her husband Anthony who died in 2024. Her fundraising efforts topped an incredible £4,000 thanks to the support of the local community, where Anthony was a teacher at a local primary school.
Corporate teams from SLM Toyota, Kinnerton Confectionary, Spring Clean Commercial Services and Wensum Print got involved in the action too.
Simon Wright, Chief Executive of Nelson’s Journey, said: “Seeing so many people descend from the top of one of Norwich’s iconic landmarks was a phenomenal sight and a moving experience. Many of those taking part did so because they knew that their effort would help to get bereaved children and young people in Norfolk the support they need.
“Without local people getting involved and raising funds, our work with Norfolk families simply wouldn’t be possible. We are so grateful to all of those who took part, and who collectively raised the funds to help us bring back smiles to bereaved children and young people in Norfolk.”
