Nelson’s Journey, Norfolk’s childhood bereavement charity, is looking to recruit fundraisers with a head for heights as it hosts an abseiling day at The Forum, in the heart of Norwich, for the first time.
The sight of people descending the iconic building to raise funds for good causes has become a familiar one in recent years and, thanks to sponsorship from SLM Toyota, Nelson’s Journey will be the first charity to hold such an event in 2025, on Saturday, 15th March.
Early sign-ups have included Kayleigh, a Mum from Norwich who says Nelson’s Journey’s help has been incredibly important: “My family suffered a devastating loss when my husband Anthony took his own life in June, it has been a very traumatic time for us all, and the girls are both dealing with it in different ways. “Nelson’s Journey has been there from the beginning, mainly talking with my sister in the early days when I was unable to deal with anything. They gave her the advice and support around how to help the girls,” she said. “I know all these things are only able to happen because of the support and fundraising for the charity and I want to do my bit to help,” she added.
Simon Wright, CEO of Nelson’s Journey said: “Our support for bereaved children and young people in Norfolk is made possible with thanks to the efforts of local fundraisers. Many people are looking for a new challenge in 2025, and we’re delighted to be able to offer an abseil opportunity to support a vital local cause at an iconic local venue. Some people will encourage a friend or family member for mutual support, and for local employers it’s a great team-building activity.”
SLM Group Operations Director Andrew Bullimore said: “We are delighted to continue our long-term relationship with Nelsons Journey supporting the great work and support they provide to local children. We hope this event is a huge success for them.”
It costs £30 to sign up for the abseil, with a fundraising target of £100. All the details & how to sign-up can be found at the Nelson’s Journey website: https://nelsonsjourney.org.uk/abseil-challenge-2025/
