Multi award winning adventure travel writer, author and filmmaker, Simon Parker, will be visiting Westacre Theatre to look back on his latest epic 4,000 mile journey across the USA, from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico by bicycle.
Simon visited national parks, rainforests, rivers, deserts, prairies, and mountains, to discover America’s wildest places and meet the rural communities that inhabit these vast and often extreme environments. Simon captured his solo journey in a series of films and in his second book, A Ride Across America: A 4,000-mile adventure through the small towns and big issues of the USA, published July 18th 2024.
His route from Cape Flattery, Washington (the northwestern most point of the contiguous USA) to Key West, Florida (the country’s southernmost city) carved its way through America, shedding light on often overlooked regions.
From the unguarded position of a cyclist, Simon spent time with real people living in Middle America, and was often welcomed into homes, workplaces and families, for an honest insight into the nation’s state of mind, ahead of the forthcoming Presidential Election.
Simon averaged 80 miles per day, powered by his body alone – not to mention, the generous American cuisine. This feat of physical endurance passed through some of the wildest regions of the USA: the Olympic Peninsula, the Rocky Mountains and Florida’s Everglades.
