Hot on the heels of a glorious summer of outdoor theatre and the start of their ambitious Save Us From Extinction crowdfunder campaign which has so far attracted over £11,000 in donations, Westacre Theatre are starting their autumn season with Laura Wade’s heartbreaking black comedy Colder Than Here in October.
We need to talk more about death – while we are still living. This beautifully crafted play is an exploration of what happens when a family of strong characters cannot talk frankly, or honestly, about death.
Directed by Matt Grist and featuring a stellar cast of Westacre Theatre Company performers Karen Bates,
Tamsin Wheeler, Lee Johnson and Rosie Hastings – this very black comedy is perfect for the intimate setting of Westacre’s studio theatre.
Nobody can ignore the fact Myra is dying, but in the meantime life goes on. The boiler is on the blink, the cat’s gone missing and the perfect funeral needs planning. Myra might be busy researching flatpack coffins and creating a PowerPoint presentation of her dying wishes, but her last big project is to fix her family.
From the creative team that brought Westacre audiences Private Lives, Public Fears in Private Places, 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche and Betrayal comes this bittersweet, warm, black comedy full of pathos and wit, sure to raise a smile and possibly a tear.
Director Matt Grist: “First things first, this is a superb play that is full of heart. At Westacre Theatre we always strive to bring well-known and less well-known pieces to our audiences; this play by Laura Wade deserves to be more well known. It is an incredibly moving and surprisingly funny story about one family dealing with terminal illness. We are very lucky to have such a strong cast who handle such tricky material so deftly. It promises to be a powerful, funny and warm opener to our jam-packed Autumn season. Come and join us!”
