Cycle riders are being encouraged to take to the saddle and be part of the biggest organised cycling event in Norfolk. TPR Events organisers of the "Tour de Broads" have chosen Nelson's Journey as their beneficiary charity for the event which will take place on Sunday 21st August 2022.
Nelson's Journey is a Norfolk based charity that helps children and young people move forward positively with their lives after experiencing the death of a significant person.
Routes range from 8 to 100 miles, perfect for those wanting a challenge to build up to. The longer routes will introduce riders to 16 Broads, 4 rivers and countless beautiful Broads National Park villages. The event will help raise much-needed funds to improve the emotional wellbeing of bereaved children living in Norfolk and will be based in the stunning Octagon Park in Little Plumstead, home to Nelson's Journey.
Helen Rainbow from organisers TPR events said "The Tour de Broads is now the region's biggest locally organised cycling event with over 2000 riders of all abilities and ages riding all types of bikes, trikes, tandems and e-bikes. Cycling is a great way to keep physically active, enjoy a great day out with friends and family and raise a pound or two for Nelson's Journey. It is not a race, but every rider is treated like a winner whether they complete the 8 mile or 100 mile course. You can expect a chunky medal, souvenir podium photo and a cheery welcome home as you cross the event village finish line and soak up that big event atmosphere. Come and join us and be part of Norfolk's biggest cycling event."
In a further show of support for Nelson's Journey, the organisers have issued a limited number of free places for riders who pledge to raise a minimum of £150 sponsorship to support the charity's work . To request one please email louise@nelsonsjourney.org.uk
Nelson's Journey's Funding and Marketing Manager, Gary Stevens, added "We are delighted to have been chosen as the charity beneficiary for the event and to be associated with such a well-known and well supported ride. Cycling is a great way to improve both physical and mental health, it's also both family and socially inclusive with the rides involving tea, cake and chatting! It will be a great event to get involved with with. The last 2 years have been especially difficult for our fundraising, with demand for our services at a high level, we are asking people to take to their bikes, have some fun in the beautiful Norfolk countryside and help us to bring back smiles to bereaved children and young people in Norfolk."
