Stories of Lynn will be run by 60 children from Whitefriars Academy on Friday 23 November, as part of Takeover Day.

Takeover Day is an annual event organised by Kids In Museums as a celebration of children and young people's contributions to museums, galleries, arts organisations, archives and heritage sites. It's a day on which they are given meaningful roles, working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the museum.

Stories of Lynn is joining Takeover Day for the first time, and has invited Year 5 students from King's Lynn's Whitefriars Academy to come and spend the day.

The children have chosen which areas of the museum they would like to get involved in running, after a brainstorming session with Rachael Williams, Stories of Lynn's Learning and Engagement Officer. They will be working front-of house, checking exhibits, preparing resources for school visits and greeting visitors. They'll create souvenirs that will be sold in the museum shop, such as postcards and painted pebbles; they'll design a museum leaflet that will be printed and given to future visitors. The students will even take over Stories of Lynn's twitter account for the day: their updates will all be posted on @storiesoflynn.

Rachael Williams said: "I'm so excited to be bringing Takeover Day to Stories of Lynn. We've had a fantastic brainstorming session so the children could decide which activities they wanted to take over; they were brimming with good ideas and really looking forward to the day. We'd like to give them a real glimpse behind the scenes at the museum, and inspire them with how much there is to learn and do. We're also hoping to learn from them: to see the museum from their perspective.

"Stories of Lynn will be open as normal from 10am to 4:30pm, so do come along and see how the takeover is going: the children would love to welcome as many visitors as possible!"
