Alan Bennett's hilarious play is based on the true story of Miss Shepherd, an eccentric woman of uncertain origins, who "temporarily" parked her broken down van in his London driveway and proceeded to live there for the next 15 years. It features not only Miss Shepherd but two Alan Bennetts for the price of one as he is torn between his naturally kind nature and his real feelings about Miss Shepherd's encroachment into his life.
