Cromer's 'Folk on the Pier' festival's musicians and crew will be rolling up their sleeves, alongside Cromer Pier's management and staff, to help the North Norfolk Foodbank as part of 'The Big Help Out' on Monday 8th May, which sees an extra Bank Holiday as part of King Charles' Coronation celebrations.

When both teams heard about this unique charity incentive for the Bank Holiday, they reasoned that given that the technical infra-structure of the folk festival would still be in place and the fact that many of the musicians involved would probably still be in the Norfolk area after the Sunday concerts, it seemed that pulling a charity concert together would be relatively simple and cost effective rather than usually having to start from scratch. With this in mind both parties decided that the best way forward would be to create a matinee concert, as opposed to an evening one on the Bank Holiday Monday, allowing visiting festival-goers who would normally make their way home after breakfast on a Monday, to stay on in Cromer to attend the concert before leaving. There would also of course be many local people and day trippers around during the day to sell tickets to.

The matinee concert will run from 2.00pm to 4.30pm and will feature three acts. Firstly, a well- loved local singer-songwriter duo 'the Browns' will start the concert followed by festival favourite over many years, Anthony John Clarke, who will supply much guitar dexterity and song-writing wisdom with some laughs too. Finishing the afternoon is a band that has grown in stature over the last ten years to become one of the UK's finest folk-rock bands, the eight piece tour-de-force that is Merry Hell!

All parties involved in the concert have given up their time to enable a very special discounted ticket price of £15.00, which they hope, outside of festival regulars, will encourage people who are perhaps unfamiliar with the acts on offer, to come along and 'do their bit' so to speak by attending this exciting fund raising concert.

With regard to the designated charity, the North Norfolk foodbank was set up in 2012 to provide emergency, essential food items for people in crisis within North Norfolk. They operate within an area totalling 200 square miles, which includes coastal areas, several market towns and extensive rural areas, and with a population of approximately 70,000. In addition to food, they provide a range of essential toiletries and household items. They also work closely with the Children's Services and can provide nappies, wipes, formula milk and other essential items for babies and toddlers.
