The ACF is a national youth movement which is sponsored by the British army. We take both boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 years. Our activities cover military subjects, sport and adventurous training. We are a partner organisation to the Duke of Edinburgh award and run BTEC courses for our cadets.The Youngsters can learn many skills for life, discipline and commitment and have fun at the same time. The cadets can obtain many qualifications as they progress through their cadet career as well as promotions and can finish up at 18 as a Regimental Sergeant Major with a BTEC, DofE, FAW as well as certificates in parachuting, shooting, expeditions, sports and music. The winners of the 2018-19 Eco Awards announced

What does a taxi company in Norwich, a school in Ellingham and an allotment enthusiast in Reepham have in common? They were all recognised for their commitment to sustainability at the prestigious Norwich and Norfolk Eco Awards 2018-19, held at the historic St Andrews Hall. They were in good company – with other winners a volunteer group working in Tuckswood, a school in Reepham and a Norwich community interest company – at the evening hosted by biologist and conservationist Professor Ben Garrod. Speakers included Richard Powell, who was awarded an OBE in 2005 in recognition for his work in environment and sustainability. Council’s ambitious vision for Great Yarmouth borough recognised as part of national programme

Great Yarmouth has been named as one of just five ‘Future Places’ in England to participate in a new national programme recognising and supporting local councils with ambitious and innovative visions for shaping their areas’ futures. The borough council made a successful submission to the Future Place programme, setting out its overarching vision for the area and how it is currently working closely with partners on a range of exciting work to support communities through place-leadership. The initiative is run by the Royal Institute of British Architects, Chartered Institute of Housing, Local Government Association and the Royal Town Planning Institute, which considered 43 expressions of interest from around 90 local authorities. Popular North Norfolk District Council herd welcomes its newest members

The number of kids born as part of North Norfolk District Council’s Bagot goat-breeding programme has hit a final tally of 12. The dozen baby animals are all doing well and are enjoying life with their new friends as the herd prepares for another busy summer of habitat management. The goats have also become a tourist attraction, and the 12 baby Bagots are sure to prove a hit with the public when they head to Cromer later this year. The latest additions to the popular herd were a bit wobbly on their feet to start with but the adorable kids are now settling well into Norfolk life, and they will be the stars of a forthcoming slot on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today programme.
Community participation and environmental responsibility are the themes for this year's Britain in Bloom competition which was launched in Hunstanton Volunteers, and representatives from businesses, local schools, Scouts, Hunstanton Town Council, Civic Society, the allotments and community orchard were invited to a special tea party at Hunstanton Town Hall to celebrate Hunstanton's achievement of Gold in Anglia in Bloom and Gold Coastal Winner in Britain in Bloom. Partners in the multi-million pound Bacton to Walcott Coastal Management (Sandscaping) Scheme gathered in Cromer yesterday, February 19th, for the signing of the construction contract. The construction contractor for the project – Team Van Oord – was resolved at a Full Council meeting in December. Yesterday representatives from Team Van Oord visited North Norfolk District Council to formally sign the contract. The significant project milestones include the decommissioning of existing outfalls and building of a new outfall during May and June; and the placing of approximately 1.8 million cubic metres of sand on the beach off Bacton Gas Terminal, Bacton village and Walcott village in July and August.

North Norfolk’s famous Bagot goats head south for their latest job

Some of the famous North Norfolk Bagot goats have headed south to continue their valuable conservation and habitat-management work. The 15 billies have been sent on a long-term loan to heathland near Thetford, on land looked after by Norfolk Wildlife Trust. The loan follows the sale of a group of billies to Suffolk Wildlife Trust last year. Cllr Sarah Butikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said: “We’re delighted that the wildlife trusts see the same potential benefits as we do. The goats are a cost-effective way of managing vegetation and vulnerable habitats, and they act as a draw for tourists, too.”

Norfolk Black History Month Commemorates the Black Volunteers of WW1

Supporters of Norfolk Black History Month gathered at Norwich War Memorial on Sunday, October 28 to commemorate the service of 1.5 million people from Africa, the Indian sub continent and the Caribbean, who volunteered to fight for the UK in World War I. Danny Keen, Chairman of Norfolk Black History Month made a speech at the commemoration in which he also explained that a total of 1.5 million African people lost their lives in in the War. Most of these people were bearers, not soldiers, nor were they volunteers; they were workers carrying weapons and supplies. This great loss of African lives has been largely forgotten.

Cedar Hall adds new dimension to Norfolk’s unique bluebell burial park

Norfolk Bluebell Wood Burial Park’s floral oasis has attracted admiring families from across the country since it opened almost three years ago. Now that number is set to soar further following a significant investment, part-funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. A state-of-the-art, environment-sensitive ceremonial hall has been built on the 18-acre parkland development, just off the A140 at Hainford. The eight-sided Cedar Hall, which can seat 120 people with standing room for another 80, has been built according to the strict code of sustainability principles that have governed the 10-year-old burial park vision. Norfolk Bluebell Wood Burial Park, which has the motto “At One With Nature”, aims to be carbon neutral within the next 18 months.
