People planning to buy a puppy or kitten from a breeder are being encouraged by The Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk to ask to see their licence and meet their mum in a new campaign. The licence number should be displayed on any advert, web page or facebook page. New guidance on buying a pet can be found at www.west-norfolk.gov.uk/buyingapet. It’s a guide to protect people’s new puppy, keep their kitten safe and healthy, as well as advice on small mammals, bird, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
Secret Menu Norfolk was launched in October, a free promo where restaurants, cafes and bars will offer an off menu dish all over Norfolk from January 2020 to March 2020. During this time customers will just quote "Secret Menu Norfolk" to get the special dish which won't be shown on the general menu. There will be the option for participating local businesses to keep, change or leave after this period for the rest of the year. There are more than 100 restaurants / cafe's and bars taking part and its an initiative to encourage the use of local independent eateries in Norfolk during the quieter period of the year. New Multi-Use Community Facility in Rackheath

Residents of Rackheath can now enjoy the benefits of a multi-use community facility after the doors were opened to Rackheath Parish Council’s extended and refurbished changing pavilion recently (Saturday 28 September 2019). The refurbished changing pavilion was made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government's Football Foundation.After netting a £98,906 grant from the Football Foundation, work began on the site in November 2018. The project also received substantial financial backing from the Broadland District Council Community Infrastructure Fund (£250,000) and the Public Works Loan Board (£105,000).

Norfolk Black History Month returns in October with the theme, Young Gifted and Black, celebrating youth, culture and identity. There are more than 80 events across the county featuring a packed programme of art, literature, film, music, theatre, talks, exhibitions and workshops. A portrait of Norwich actor, Roger Nsengiyumva by Jamaican artist, Danny Keen will be unveiled in the foyer at Norwich City Hall, 10am on Monday, October 7 and will be on display until the end of the month. Roger epitomises the Young Gifted and Black theme. Thousands enjoy Norfolk's Biggest Soap Box Derby

More people than ever before enjoyed The Searles Soap Box Derby in Hunstanton on Sunday 22 September. The event, organised by the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, returned to the town in 2017 and has got more popular each year. 44 teams raced down the new, faster, course that started at the town hall and finished near the bandstand overlooking the sea. Teams travelled from all over the country to take part, including racers from Newark, Wellingborough and Milton Keynes. This year, for the first time, there was a speed trap on the course. Tenth Annual Fairhaven Fun Dog Day – Great Yarmouth Winner

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden at South Walsham, staged its tenth annual Fun Dog Day and Dog Show on Sunday, September 8. The Dog Show's 11 categories, including best mover, best sausage catcher, cutest face, best crossbreed, prettiest bitch, handsomest male and best family raised £386 for Great Yarmouth based CARE Dog Rescue, www.care-uk.com. Nicola Cook from Great Yarmouth won Best in Show with her English Cocker Spaniel, Myrtle, along with Prettiest Bitch puppy to the three years old. Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls 2019 opens at seafront

Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls, the biggest outdoor open bowling event in the country, is getting underway at Great Yarmouth seafront, with some 1,100 bowlers competing over four weeks. Organised by Great Yarmouth Borough Council and managed by Brian Grint and the Festival of Bowls Committee, this year’s festival is taking place on the Britannia Bowling Greens between Sunday, August 25 and Friday, September 20. Tournament coordinator Brian said: “This year’s festival looks to be another big year. Mods and Rockers Classic Scooter and Motorbike Meet returned to King’s Lynn for the fifth time on Sunday 11 August. A full day of entertainment was presented by the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk in the Tuesday Market Place. The event has become popular with scooter and bike enthusiasts, along with fans of the clothes and music of the era. More bikers turned up this year, the first 100 receiving a unique patch. Event manager, Abbie Panks, said: "We extended the size of the bike area for this year and that was also filled so we saw an increase on last year's numbers which is very positive. We also had bikers travelling to King's Lynn for the event from Leicestershire, Nottingham and Essex."

Street Artists wanted for latest urban art project in Norwich

Norwich is already home to seven eye catching large-scale street murals and now the Norwich Business Improvement District (BID) is working on its latest urban art venture. Working in partnership with Norwich Market, 12 market stalls will be transformed into vibrant street art for residents, visitors and market vendors to enjoy. Voted as Britain’s Best Large Outdoor Market 2019 (National Association of British Market Authorities), Norwich Market is packed full of history and stories making it a must-see destination in the city centre.
