Milly J Shoes Delivers Easter Shoe to the Maids Head Hotel

Emily Jupp of Milly J Shoes has delivered her special 'Easter' Shoe to the Maids Head Hotel. The shoe will be on display in hotel reception throughout the Easter period.

Emily is a shoe artist and is creating a series of shoes, linked to key events in the Norwich and Norfolk calendar, for display at the hotel. She crafts her handmade shoes and clips in her shop and studio in Tombland, just across the road from the Maids Head.

Winner of the EDP Bride Awards Innovation Award 2018 and Footwear Designer of the Year 2015, Emily has launched a campaign to get people to bring their unwanted shoes to her shop, so they can be upcycled into one of her colourful creations.

Guests enjoying hen party and birthday party afternoon teas at the Maids Head, can also book Emily for a fun workshop to design an create their own pair of shoe clips, which they take home in a presentation box.

An Afternoon Tea with Milly J Shoes event, including a shoe clips workshop has been arranged for Sunday 17 November www.maidsheadhotel.co.uk/event/afternoon-tea-with-millys-shoes

  • Football club is ‘on the ball’ with donations

Breckland Council’s work to support vulnerable residents through the coronavirus pandemic has been boosted by a donation from Norwich City Football Club and Norwich City Community Sports Foundation.

There are more than 3,600 people in the district who the NHS consider to be ‘extremely vulnerable’ and the council is supporting them by making welfare calls and, where needed, distributing medicines and food parcels.

The club and its foundation recently boosted the local effort by donating 120 parcels to the council, containing essential non-perishable food items such as tinned goods and dried foods. The boxes also included hand sanitiser, toilet roll, sweet treats, a NCFC gift and a note from celebrity chef and Canaries shareholder Delia Smith.

The support is part of the club and foundation’s Canaries COVID-19 Community Support Project which has seen £200k donated by the football club’s players, staff and directors, to help the county respond to covid-19.

  • Rival Clubs Back Local Charity’s Annual Sleep Out

Local charity, The Benjamin Foundation, has announced its annual Sleep Out fundraising events with Norwich City and Ipswich Town Football Clubs hosting this year’s events.

Taking place on Thursday 19th November, the Norwich Sleep Out will be held at Norwich City Football Club, Carrow Road with the Ipswich Sleep Out taking place at Ipswich Town Football Club on Portman Road on 5th November.

The annual Sleep Out fundraising events support The Benjamin Foundation’s work in Norfolk and Suffolk to prevent youth homelessness by inviting people to spend one night sleeping outside so others don’t have to. Money raised through sponsorship helps their work to tackle the homelessness problem locally by providing a home and support to over 100 vulnerable young people aged 16 to 25 every night. The Benjamin Foundation also gives them the skills they need so they can go on to forge independent lives.

  • Cheque Presentation to Break – Maids Head Hotel Charity 2019

Throughout 2019, Break was the Maids Head Hotel's local charity. During the year staff and guests raised £1,184.06. We invited Danielle Gravestock from Break to receive the cheque and celebrate the fundraising success with our staff.

The money was raised through collection buckets, a Christmas raffle and donations at special events including resident tour guide Paul Dickson's Shardlake's Norwich tours during English Tourism Week and Norfolk Day and Rob Knee from the Paston Heritage Society who gave talks about the Pastons and the Paston Letters on Norfolk Day and on 22 November. The second talk was on the anniversary of the Maids Head getting it's first official written mention in a Paston letter. A team from the Maids Head – Jonathan Brasnett, Andrew Shorthose and Rose Taylor - also completed the City of Norwich half marathon in aid of Break.

  • Wine Press Restaurant launches new A La Carte Menu

Following last autumn's refurbishment of the Maids Head Hotel's Wine Press Restaurant, Head Chef Marcin 'Magic' Pomierny, semi-finalist in the National Chef of the Year competition 2018 and 2019, has created a new A La Carte Menu to complement the contemporary look of the AA Two Rosette restaurant, featuring the finest of local seasonal produce.

The three-course menu, which will change with the seasons, also features an amuse bouche and a pre-dessert as part of the offer. Diners can opt for three or two course meals.

“I have been inspired by our new look Wine Press Restaurant to design a menu which will complement the diners' surroundings,” said Magic. “Local produce includes cod, halibut and game, Cromer crab, Eleveden Estate venison and Norfolk mussels, all given a contemporary twist. We have fully tested the menu in house and look forward to getting feedback from our guests.”
