Lisa Redford Unplugged - Norfolk Day

Norfolk Day will be upon us this Friday, 27th July and I am really excited to share this beautiful new music video from my incredibly talented student Breeze Redwine. Especially filmed for Norfolk Day and showcasing the stunning countryside of the county, it has already had a wonderful response and been selected as the official song for the occasion. The track is "Trust"  an original song written by myself and Breeze which is also the title track of her debut EP. Everyone involved in the video is from Norfolk, from the musicians to the video director-producer David McKenna, and the project was sponsored by Rushall-based Vincent’s Garage.

Some of the county’s most iconic landmarks feature in the video including including Thurne in the Norfolk Broads, Happisburgh Light House, Cromer Pier and The Waveney Valley.

Here is the video on YouTube. Thank you for watching and commenting: https://youtu.be/ND062xy936Q

It has been nice to see some great press for the song and video already. Thank you to Simon Parkin at the EDP for the feature:

Also, the song has been made BBC Introducing Track of the Week and will be played every afternoon this week on Stephen Bumfrey’s show on Radio Norfolk! Breeze’s brand new single “We Can Be Legends” was also played on this weekend’s BBC Introducing and will be released on August 10 followed by an EP of the same title on August 24.

I am looking forward to being part of Norfolk Day myself with a special acoustic performance in the glorious setting of Norwich Cathedral on Friday afternoon. Full programme of the Cathedral’s events are here:

Summer Gigs and Festivals

Reepham_Festival_2018_Line_Up.jpg

It has been a very busy Summer already. I had so much fun performing a special acoustic concert in beautiful Pézenas, South of France with superb guitarist Luigi Notarangelo.

I have posted some live videos on my YouTube channel and also on Instagram. Here is “Call Me” https://youtu.be/Y-0L9Xlzsc8

Following that I played a lovely headline concert for my friends in Burnham Deepdale as part of their monthly Sunday Sessions. Here is a cover of “Rocket Man” thanks to the audience for singing along! I will also be returning there for the excellent Deepdale Festival performing on Saturday 29th September

Festival season is in full swing and I enjoyed a beautiful sultry night playing Stradisphere Music Festival, in Stradbroke and it was lovely to meet the brilliant Mercury Music Prize winning Badly Drawn Boy ahead of his excellent headline set. It was also a joy to perform “Trust” and “Courage” with Breeze.

The following day I had a great time at Maverick Festival seeing some memorable performances and soaking up the always warm, friendly atmosphere. I also had a lot of fun performing a short set on the Jimmy Rodgers stage.

Looking ahead, I’m excited for my next show when I will be returning to the lovely Reepham Festival for two solo acoustic performances over the weekend of August 11th and 12th. There’s a super line up, can’t wait to see acoustic duo Smith and Brewer and local artists Honey and the Bear and Mammal Not Fish.

I’m really excited to share my new original song “I Just Can’t Forget” the first track from my second Whispering Bob TV Under The Apple Tree session. Curated by Bob Harris himself, Under the Apple Tree sessions are intimate performances recorded live in the studio of Whispering Bob Harris, which just happens to be situated under an apple tree.

It is always special catching up with Bob Harris and his son Miles Hyerscough-Harris - who beautifully records and films the sessions - and it was also a treat to be reunited with brilliant pedal steel player Alan Cook who played on my second album “Lost Again”

Over the last couple of months I’ve played some lovely gigs and radio sessions.  I had a wonderful night performing at Norwich Waterfront Studio opening for country singer songwriter Sarah Darling. It was exciting to perform two brand new songs and nice to have the brilliant Noel Dashwood - from renowned local folk trio Alden, Patterson and Dashwood - joining me with his exceptional dobro and harmony vocals.  We also earned some great reviews from local publications:

“With dobro player Noel by her side, she opened up the evening with a great array of original songs which she has written over her substantial career as a musician. It was easy to be drawn in by her elegant and classy deliverance.” Huge thanks to the EDP Newspaper for this great mention.

  • Lisa Redford Unplugged : Americana

It’s already been a busy and creative year.  In my music writer role I had an amazing and inspiring time at the AmericanaFestUK in London which I was covering for iSing Magazine, a digital magazine for vocalists and excellent resource for singers, singing teachers and those in the music industry.  Organised by the AMA-UK, AmericanaFestUK celebrates the flourishing Americana music scene with a daytime conference, an evening of artist showcases and an illustrious Awards ceremony.

As an Americana artist and member of The AMA-UK myself, it is so great that the association represents and supports American roots music and artists in the UK.  The conference drew major artists including Billy Bragg, Frank Turner, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Mary Gauthier and Squeeze’s Chris Difford. The Stellar awards show at the historic Hackney Empire hosted by Bob Harris featured some incredible performances including lifetime achievement winner Robert Plant and Trailblazer Award winners Mumford and Sons.

  • Lisa Redford Unplugged : My Favourite Songs

I had a great time playing two successive Americana nights in Norwich last week. I performed at the historic Guildhall in the city centre for Grapevine for Music, who host regular gigs showcasing quality folk, Americana and country artists. Also performing were superb Norfolk singer-songwriter Jake Morrell, now based in London and fresh from recording in Nashville, and also SJ and the flying Pigs from Cambridge, who create a lovely dreamy sound with acoustic guitar, banjo and fiddle.

  • Lisa Redford Unplugged : Sound and Vision

I had a lovely time performing at the inaugural Deepdale Festival last month.  In a beautiful North Norfolk setting, and with glorious weather, the weekend showcased all the wonderful local talent the area has to offer. There was a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and it was a lot of fun having drummer Terry Anderson from The Mojo Preachers join me impromptu during my set.

Congratulations to Jason Borthwick and Chris Haycock for a successful festival, here’s to next year!
