Lisa Redford: From Festivals to Hollywood Awards

It’s been a very exciting summer so far, my talented student Breeze Redwine has just returned from LA where she won many awards at the World Championships of Performing Arts, an international performing arts talent competition in Hollywood.

Among her many awards, Breeze won 4 Gold, 2 Silver and Overall Champion twice.  She also won an Industry Award, meaning she is most likely to make it in the music industry.

I’m also so proud that 'Courage' her recent debut single that I wrote, won Best Original Song.  As a songwriter, to gain recognition for your songs is the biggest thrill.

The World Championships of Performing Arts is the only international performing arts talent competition of its kind held annually in Hollywood. It’s an innovative, official World Talent Contest with esteemed entertainment industry professionals invited to judge, conduct seminars and sign talent and so it’s wonderful that they have recognised and rewarded Breeze’s undeniable talent.

I’ve also been continuing to promote my new EP ‘Another Place and Time’ which has earned more lovely reviews including from Songwriting Magazine, Outline Magazine and the respected roots singer/songwriter magazine R2 who have described it as ‘classy songwriting and a heartfelt vocal delivery.’

I recently released the second single from it called ‘Remember Me’ which has had airplay on various folk, Americana and country shows including Amazing Radio. Here’s an acoustic unplugged version in a very cool music room:

Festival season is in full swing and I started my festival appearances by playing again at Dubs in the Hall festival in the beautiful surroundings of Holt Hall. There’s always a lovely family atmosphere there.

Another festival with a wonderful atmosphere is Latitude which was excellent as always and so much fun on a particularly sultry day and evening. Among the many exciting and eclectic bands I saw, the highlight was seeing one of my favourite bands New Order headline on the Sunday night, my legs were very tired afterwards from dancing!

In tribute I’ve done an acoustic cover of ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’

Upcoming festival appearances include another VW festival, White Noise near Thetford where I’ll be closing the Woodland stage on Sunday 7th August. White Noise is the first VM and music festival established in Norfolk over 13 years ago and is a truly independent festival that celebrates diverse live music and provides many free creative activities for children.

On August 21st I’ll then be playing on the Soapbox Stage at Folk East which is held at the picturesque Suffolk estate of Glemhall Hall.  Described by The Guardian as “one of the best world music, roots and folk festivals in the UK, for 2016” Folk East is in its fifth year and among its usual exceptional headliners in the world of folk and roots is Eliza Carthy who I supported at OPEN last year. I’m really excited to be performing on The SoapBox Stage for the first time as this is the stage, run by creative producer Amy Wragg, an independent Music & Spoken Word promoter, is renowned for showcasing a mix of new and established artists.

I am really excited that the PledgeMusic crowdfunding campaign for my next release is already at 86%! A huge thank you to all those of you who have pledged or shared the project. As an independent artist it really means a lot.

Recording for the new EP has just finished here in Norwich and it has been a really productive and exciting process. As mentioned, I am working with the super talented musician and producer José McGill – band-leader of the award-winning local band Vagaband – who has created some beautiful arrangements and played an array of instruments.

There is also a host of other local musicians who have been involved. Noel Dashwood – from Norwich based folk trio Alden Patterson and Dashwood - has contributed his wonderful dobro and harmonies. We have performed live together in the area playing festivals such as Folk East in Suffolk and supporting Sarah Darling and Eliza Carthy at Norwich Waterfront and OPEN. He will be performing with his trio at Epic Studios on 22nd November opening for renowned folk artists Show of Hands.

  • Lisa Redford launches her first PledgeMusic Crowdfunding Project

I am really excited to have launched my first ever PledgeMusic crowdfunding project for a brand new release. I have already started recording material with local band The Vagaband - recent recipients of The Music Award at the 2018 Norfolk Arts Awards - who I also recorded my last EP with.

There are some very special rewards and exclusives on offer including two beloved guitars and some rare signed memorabilia from my back catalogue. You will also be helping Dogs Trust as I spend a lot of time walking rescue dogs in the area and their companionship is truly special. Please watch the video and check out the rewards on offer - I would so appreciate any shares on social media.

  • Lisa Redford Unplugged - Norfolk Day

Norfolk Day will be upon us this Friday, 27th July and I am really excited to share this beautiful new music video from my incredibly talented student Breeze Redwine. Especially filmed for Norfolk Day and showcasing the stunning countryside of the county, it has already had a wonderful response and been selected as the official song for the occasion. The track is "Trust"  an original song written by myself and Breeze which is also the title track of her debut EP. Everyone involved in the video is from Norfolk, from the musicians to the video director-producer David McKenna, and the project was sponsored by Rushall-based Vincent’s Garage.

Some of the county’s most iconic landmarks feature in the video including including Thurne in the Norfolk Broads, Happisburgh Light House, Cromer Pier and The Waveney Valley.

  • Lisa Redford unplugged - I Just can't forget

I’m really excited to share my new original song “I Just Can’t Forget” the first track from my second Whispering Bob TV Under The Apple Tree session. Curated by Bob Harris himself, Under the Apple Tree sessions are intimate performances recorded live in the studio of Whispering Bob Harris, which just happens to be situated under an apple tree.

It is always special catching up with Bob Harris and his son Miles Hyerscough-Harris - who beautifully records and films the sessions - and it was also a treat to be reunited with brilliant pedal steel player Alan Cook who played on my second album “Lost Again”

  • Lisa Redford Unplugged : Gigs, TV and Festivals

Over the last couple of months I’ve played some lovely gigs and radio sessions.  I had a wonderful night performing at Norwich Waterfront Studio opening for country singer songwriter Sarah Darling. It was exciting to perform two brand new songs and nice to have the brilliant Noel Dashwood - from renowned local folk trio Alden, Patterson and Dashwood - joining me with his exceptional dobro and harmony vocals.  We also earned some great reviews from local publications:

“With dobro player Noel by her side, she opened up the evening with a great array of original songs which she has written over her substantial career as a musician. It was easy to be drawn in by her elegant and classy deliverance.” Huge thanks to the EDP Newspaper for this great mention.
