New King’s Lynn interpretation boards explain history of the town

New interpretation boards have been placed around King’s Lynn town centre that explain some of the history of the town to visitors and residents. Thanks to funding from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Welcome Back fund.

The borough council tourism department have placed 11 new interpretation boards around King’s Lynn town centre. Cllr Graham Middleton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Business, Culture and Heritage, explains: “These interpretation boards give visitors to our town a warm welcome, tell some of town’s history and include a map of the area."

Text and images for the boards were kindly supplied by the King's Lynn Civic Society and True's Yard Fisherfolk Museum. Many of the boards are situated in or near borough council car parks to welcome visitors to the town. There is also one on Ferry Lane and on Purfleet Street.

The boards have been paid for by the Welcome Back fund, which includes European Regional Development Fund funding, to reduce economic and social disparity. It was awarded to Local Authorities in recognition of the impact of Covid-19 on the local high street and the need to support local businesses by creating a safe and welcoming environment.
