News from Westacre Theatre - Autumn Season

A whole world of stage and screen comes right to West Norfolk.  The programme at Westacre Theatre really is bursting with treats for all tastes.  So your serious dilemma is simply deciding which shows to see.

Through the Autumn there are three new productions by the in-house Theatre Company.  The first of those in October is One Million Tiny Plays about Britain.  Matt Grist directs a variety of miniature insights into other people’s lives.

For truly festive entertainment this Christmas, Peter Pan will whisk you away with the lost boys to magical Neverland for a memorable musical adventure.  Follow them running away from the crocodile and escaping to Mermaid Lagoon.

Sandwiched between those two delights in November is Can’t Pay?  Won’t Pay! - a topical farce directed by Andy Naylor and Issy Huckle which is frighteningly relevant to today.  In keeping with the theme of this riotous comedy, there is a special offer out for Opening Night on November 17th - you can watch the play completely free.

For that one special show, you can either pay as you would normally or you are very welcome to go along for absolutely free.  There will be an opportunity on the night to make a donation to Westacre Theatre if you wish to for as little or as much as you can afford.  But please remember that you still have to reserve your seat in advance whether or not you pay for it.

In other attractions on the Studio stage, direct from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the well-respected Box Tale Soup Company bringing to life the exciting adventures of Gulliver like you have never seen them before.

Norwich Puppet Theatre pays a much anticipated visit to Westacre to present the beautiful Hans Christian Anderson classic of Thumbelina – about the girl no bigger than your thumb.  Do you recall how she could float on a lily pad and ride on the back of a dragonfly?

Singing duet Opera Dudes are Licensed to Trill.  These skilful performers will enrapture and inspire you with their songs from the shows and extracts from opera.  There will be plenty of opportunity for audience participation.  Arriving with five-star reviews, they are an act not to be missed.

For one night only in December, you can disappear down the rabbit hole with The Lamphouse Theatre Company.  Based on Lewis Carroll’s original story with lots of laughs and new songs, this is the entirely enchanting Alice in Winterland.

Then herald the coming of Christmas time with the Westacre Theatre Company’s Winter Warmer – a Sunday afternoon of seasonal celebration.

Meanwhile, good use will be made of the Studio screen.  National Theatre Live starts off in October with Jack Absolute Flies Again.  In November, Emilia Clarke stars in Chekhov’s The Seagull.  Early in the New Year will be their latest version of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

In other screen selections is the York Theatre Royal’s award-winning production of The Railway Children.  Recorded live in the different setting of the National Railway Museum, it very cleverly features the locomotive from the fondly-remembered 1970 film.

Spot on to mark Halloween will be The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  If dressing up in costume for the evening is what gives you total pleasure then you are very welcome to do so.

In stark contrast from the Royal Opera House and rated as the finest classic ballet anywhere is the Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker with that glorious music that could only come from Tchaikovsky.

A superb selection of mainstream films includes Operation Mincemeat starring Colin Firth, and the cinematic return of Downton Abbey.

Workshops with places still available embrace a Christmas Wreath Making experience from Wild Oak Workshops.  Another of the exceptionally popular Life Drawing with a Theatrical Twist is back combining performance, movement, light and sound.

New additions are being made to the programme all the time.  Full details of the entire season are on the website where you can also book your tickets.  With literally something for everyone, Westacre hopes to see you there.  Ample free off-road parking is available with level access and floor right through to the front row.  The Box Office will happily discuss your special needs if you either email This email address is being protected from spambots.
