“Fast, Funny and Brilliantly Chaotic – Teechers hits Westacre Theatre”

Westacre Theatre is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of John Godber’s iconic comedy Teechers, directed by the brilliantly inventive Matt Grist (Alligators, The Unfriend, Private Lives, A Midsummer Night’s Dream…).

Opening 14th November, this fast-moving, laugh-out-loud play is a must-see for anyone who remembers the chaos of school life – or wishes they didn’t!

Meet Gail, Hobby and Salty – three Year 11 students on the cusp of leaving school, navigating crushes, assemblies, and the highs and lows of adolescence with imagination and theatre. Inspired by their idealistic drama teacher, Mr. Nixon, the trio create a play within a play, capturing the triumphs and trials of their schooldays in a whirlwind of humour, heart, and
lightning-fast character changes.

Bringing Godber’s world vividly to life is a tour de force cast of leading ladies: Tamsin Wheeler (Di & Viv & Rose, Private Lives) as Salty – cheeky, charismatic, and hiding a sensitive side beneath bravado. Laura-Kate Nice (Comedy of Errors, Merry Wives of Windsor) as Gail – sharp, outspoken, and ambitious, the natural ringleader with big dreams. Rachael Cummins (Alligators, Oh! What a lovely war) as Hobby – kind, imaginative, and the heart of the trio, keeping the chaos in check.

Fast, funny, and brilliantly performed, Teechers asks: has education really moved on since the 1980s, or has it knackers? With its timeless message about the inequalities of the UK education system, the play remains as relevant, punchy, and entertaining as ever.

Westacre Theatre Director Sadie Grist, adds: “This show is massively nostalgic for Matt and I, it’s not our first production of it, but it may well be the finest! Watching these brilliant women who first found their feet in our bursary programme, bring Godber’s sharp, energetic and hilarious piece to life, is an absolute joy…”
