Gresham’s teachers complete ultra marathon

Gresham’s teachers, Chris Cox, Ben Green and David Saker have completed their first ‘Ultra Marathon’, raising £2745 for two charities.

The trio endured extremely hot weather conditions, rough terrain, severe cramp and aching legs to complete the ‘South Coast Challenge’, a gruelling off-road 100km race from Eastbourne to Arundel, during the August Bank Holiday weekend.  

Chris and Ben took part in the challenge to raise money for ‘Thinking of Oscar’, a charity which aims to improve the experiences of young children and their families while they are in hospital care and to provide for the development of research and development into and the provision of improved diagnostic techniques and technology for paediatric care.

Gresham’s teachers, Chris Cox, Ben Green and David Saker will take on their first ‘Ultra Marathon’ in August to raise money for two charities.

Chris, Ben and David have signed up to take part in the ‘South Coast Challenge’ during the August Bank Holiday weekend and are hoping to complete the gruelling off road 100kms from Eastbourne to Arundel in less than fifteen hours.

Chris and Ben are running for ‘Thinking of Oscar’, a charity which aims to improve the experiences of young children and their families while they are in hospital care and to provide for the development of research and development into and the provision of improved diagnostic techniques and technology for paediatric care.

David is taking part in the challenge to raise money for The Alzheimer’s Society which seeks to support people suffering from dementia and to fund world-class research with the ultimate goal of defeating it.

Toys and Tins Appeal

The Toys and Tins appeal is a joint venture between BBC Radio Norfolk and The Salvation Army.

The aim of the appeal is to distribute gifts of food and toys to families and individuals in need. The scheme is supported through fund raising events; personal donations; gift services held by churches; projects within schools and offices; and direct appeal to the public during the Christmas period. It is run mostly with volunteers.
